“My career is like an artichoke,” Katy Perry tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Lisa Robinson. “People might think that the leaves are tasty and buttered up and delicious, and they don’t even know that there’s something magical hidden at the base of it. There’s a whole other side [of me] that people didn’t know existed.”

Perry, who tells Robinson that she wants her ashes shot out over the Santa Barbara coast in a firework, reveals that one side of her she has definitively left behind is her born-again upbringing. “I didn’t have a childhood,” she says, adding that her mother never read her any books except the Bible, and that she wasn’t allowed to say “deviled eggs” or “Dirt Devil.” Perry wasn’t even allowed to listen to secular music and relied on friends to sneak her CDs. “Growing up, seeing Planned Parenthood, it was considered like the abortion clinic,” she tells Robinson. “I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there…. I didn’t know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn’t have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control.”“I think sometimes when children grow up, their parents grow up,” Perry says of her evangelical-minister parents. “Mine grew up with me. We coexist. I don’t try to change them anymore, and I don’t think they try to change me. We agree to disagree. They’re excited about [my success]. They’re happy that things are going well for their three children and that they’re not on drugs. Or in prison.” Perry’s mother confirms that she is proud of her daughter’s success, telling Robinson, “The Lord told us when I was pregnant with her that she would do this.”
“I come from a very non-accepting family, but I’m very accepting,” Perry says of her religious beliefs as an adult. “Russell is into Hinduism, and I’m not [really] involved in it. He meditates in the morning and the evening; I’m starting to do it more because it really centers me. [But] I just let him be him, and he lets me be me.” Perry says she didn’t stick with the mold growing up. “I have always been the kid who’s asked ‘Why?’ In my faith, you’re just supposed to have faith. But I was always like…why?” she says. “At this point, I’m just kind of a drifter. I’m open to possibility…. My sponge is so big and wide and I’m soaking everything up and my mind has been radically expanded. Just being around different cultures and people and their opinions and perspectives. Just looking into the sky.”
Of her marriage to Russell Brand, Perry says that there is “never a dull moment” and that Brand has “never lied to me once. I trust him; there’s just a level of trust that we’ve built up.” When asked about the infamous photo Brand tweeted of her without makeup in the middle of the night, Perry laughs it off. “We were just messing around,” she says, “I didn’t really care. I mean, when I go to rehearsals I look like that. I’m every woman. It takes a village to make me who I am…. You don’t have to wake up looking like, you know, Gisele.”
“The press is just not your friend when it comes to a marriage,” Perry explains of her need for privacy in her relationship with Brand. “That’s why we didn’t sell the pictures of our wedding, and we got offered millions of dollars for them, millions.” Why not take the money and give it to charity? Robinson asks. “Well, I can always do that later for something else; maybe if I have a child,” Perry says. “But I’ve seen too much of it with other people—it’s the wrong kind of attention. It detracts from the reason why you exist. We wanted that moment to ourselves.”
After ultimately showing a clip of her wedding video at the Grammys, Perry tells Robinson she did it “because I felt the moment was right and not forced. Russell and I had time to savor our moment privately first and then share it with people when we were ready, and not for a paycheck. I loved the idea, because I thought it was beautiful and artistically accompanied the song I wrote for him. Plus, it was Valentine’s eve!”
Perry talks to Robinson about the controversy surrounding her early hit “I Kissed a Girl,” saying she thinks the song worked because “finally someone was singing about something that existed. But it really was [meant to be] fun; there was no agenda.” Perry admits she didn’t discuss it honestly at first because a couple of “sleazy” male journalists made her uncomfortable. “So I said no, I hadn’t experienced it, even though I had, because I didn’t like where the guys were taking the interviews.”

Perry is adamant that, regardless of what else is going on in her life, her music should be her main draw to her fans: “I don’t care what people say about my relationship; I don’t care what they say about my boobs. People are buying my songs; I have a sold-out tour. I’m getting incredible feedback from my music.” But despite her immense fame, Perry never forgets what it took to get to where she is. “I don’t take anything for granted,” she says. “There are 500 other girls right behind me. And I know that, because I was one of them. I remember what it’s like to be someone who’s always trying to get there—sending out tons of e-mails … trying to connect with some person who could connect me with some other person. And I wouldn’t be working at this pace now if I didn’t truly know that fame is fleeting.”
“If the core, the honesty, my story, isn’t working, then all those bells and whistles aren’t going to work, either,” Perry says of staying focused on her music. “Sometimes I can be distracted by the glamour and the fabulousness. But my husband always reminds me to keep the core intact…. I just think I have to appreciate every day, every opportunity, work hard, and continue to evolve as an artist. I already know my future evolution, where I’m going to go. I mean, I’m touring in fucking Indonesia, for crying out loud.”

Following in the footsteps of fellow superstar Justin Bieber and his hit 3D documentary film ‘Never Say Never,’ singer/songwriter Katy Perry has a documentary film in 3D hitting theatres this summer. The film is called ‘Part Of Me‘ and will tell Perry’s story, from her childhood and religious upbringing, to how she “made it” to being on tour and more.

The first trailer for the film has just been released and it looks interesting. She’s done so well for herself over the past few years, it will be very interesting to see what sort of uphill battle she endured to get where she is today because I know it was challenging for her.

  And I read in a recent interview with Teen Vogue, pop sensation Katy Perry talked about an upcoming film documenting the behind-the-scenes reality of her California Dreams tour.

According to Deadline, the first trailer for the documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me, was released last week.

Part of Me is scheduled for release on July 5^th in 2D and 3D.

A while back, it was announced that Katy Perry would join the ranks of Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber and be the subject of her own 3D "documentary-style film." And, it turns out, it wasn't a dream!
The singer revealed the name of her doc-to-be while on the red carpet at Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Perry told E!'s Kelly Osbourne that the movie's title is to be "Katy Perry: Part of Me." She also hinted at the possibility of a Fourth of July release date, when she urged fans to “go and see it and be a firework.” (Get it? Clever lady!)
Piggybacking off the you-better-belieb-it success of "Never Say Never," bigwig producing partners Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, are in talks   to direct the 3D concert. The film is said to chronicle Perry's public and private life.

Perry's life both on stage and off has certainly been eventful; she's dominated Top-40 charts with her poppy tunes, which include "I Kissed A Girl," "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "Last Friday Night," and "The One That Got Away." The singer's personal life has also been a bit of a whirlwind as her marriage to Russell Brand ended back in December 2011. and in interviewed with teen Vogue about her 3D Concert documentary film..

Katy Perry covers the May 2012 issue of Teen Vogue and talks about her upcoming 3D concert movie ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me‘. After the jump check out the interview and more photos.
On her concert documentary film: ‘One of my main reasons for doing this is that people think of me as though I’m Dorothy in the ruby slippers. I want them to see everything else that’s involved. Yes, I am her, but at the end of it all, I’m also the guy behind the curtain… [Moreover] I wanted to document the tour, because when we started to book these really big venues, I felt like I was going all in. And I figured that by the end of it I’d be bankrupt or else I’d look like the smartest music businesswoman of my age, and I thought either outcome would be interesting. More than that, though, I wanted to show people this parade that surrounds me… I wanted them to see the engine. I think sometimes they look at me and wonder, How is it possible that she continues to have this kind of success? Why are the stars so aligned for her? But, while that is a factor, it’s not the whole story. I also work my tail off! And, of course, I wanted people to be able to experience the tour and all the joy it brought, which is why we shot it in 3D. And this is amazing 3D. It’s definitely not just a marketing tool.’
On whether Madonna’s or Justin Bieber’s docu-movies inspired her : ‘A little. Madonna is everything to me, and that movie is amazing because it caught her at a time when she was a bit more vulnerable. I wanted to do that too, to capture a snapshot of who I am now so that I can remind myself what I’ve lost if I ever do become totally jaded [laughs].’
On whether she’s interested in acting: ‘I would love to [act]. There was a time when I was going to be involved in The Help, just a small part, I wasn’t going to be Emma Stone or anything, but I couldn’t because the shooting schedule conflicted with the release of my record. And I was upset about that; I knew it was going to be an important film. Not that I need to do drama first, but I do want to do something that makes a strong impression. You don’t really get off the hook being a musician first… I feel like the stakes are really high.’
On whether her success is still exciting: ‘Of course! I’m not like, ‘Ugh, number one again.’ It’s funny, though, my label gets so caught up in the statistics, just because they’re excited. But for me, I don’t need to grind it into anyone’s head that I’m popular. If you like my music, great, and if you don’t, whatever. I’m going to keep making it either way. This does feel a bit like the record that never ends. But I wanted to release The Complete Confection for the hard-core fan who wants everything: three new songs, the remixes, and it’s all in a cute little package.’
On how her life’s changed: ‘My life is crazy now. When you get to this level, there’s a lot that’s not real, but I really haven’t changed.’

On whether she’s tired of fame: ‘I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do. It’s quite a delicate creature; it’s a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. I still want to be as approachable and relatable as possible. When I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, ‘Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite you or attack you or grant you three wishes. Let’s just hang out and have a good time.’ But really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago. If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll only end up completely confused.’
On her style: ‘I don’t like to take fashion too seriously. I love it, and I am so grateful when big brands want to associate with me, but mostly I just want to take chances and have fun and truly live. And sometimes that means wearing some ridiculous, cat-inspired outfit rather than whatever happens to be in this season… I love Agyness Deyn, Chloë Sevigny, Daphne Guinness, Natalie Wood, Judy Jetson, and Wonder Woman.’
On where that style comes from: ‘I’m still doing the pinup thing, but now when I do it, I want to be the pinup of the future, like Rachael in Blade Runner. But I’ve always been quirky. It probably started when I was nine years old, and my father used to wake me up at seven every Saturday morning to take me to garage sales. I couldn’t afford the clothes that the other girls at school were wearing, so instead I looked for things that were unique to me.’

Katy Perry's New Album 'Inspired' By Russell Brand Split

Katy Perry is said to be using the recent split with husband Russell Brand as inspiration for her new album. 

The actor and comedian filed for divorce on Friday (December 30), blaming ''irreconcilable differences' on the split.

A source told The Sun: "Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary which she goes back to to draw upon for lyrics for her songs.

"She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary.

"She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks." Russell filed for divorce at LA Superior Court last Friday, citing "irreconcilable differences".

Katy Perry is believed to have wrote about former boyfriend Travis McCoy's alleged drug abuse in her album track, 'Circle The Drain'.

Lyrics in the track include: "Thought I was the exception/ I could rewrite your addiction/ You could have been the greatest/ But you'd rather get wasted/ You fall asleep during foreplay/ 'Cause the pills you take are more your forte." 

Perry and Brand began dating shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, which the comedian hosted.Katy Perry is going to a darker place in her music, perhaps to exorcise a certain demon named -- shall we guess? -- Russell Brand.

That track will be on the extended version of Teenage Dream, set for release, March 13.

What's the difference between a girl-kissing pop sensation and an Australian luxury loungewear designer? Well, two letters: "i" and "e" — and apparently that's too close for comfort.
On Tuesday (June 16), an Australian newspaper reported that a local fashion designer, Katie Perry, had been served a cease-and-desist order from lawyers representing singer Katy Perry, aimed at stopping her from trademarking her birth name for a clothing label.
According to The Australian, Katie Perry started a "luxury loungewear" fashion line more than two years ago and had been selling her designs online and through local markets. Last week, she opened her first retail outlet in a suburb of Sydney and filed paperwork to trademark her name for both the store and her line.
That's when she received a letter from a Queensland-based legal firm, Fisher Adams Kelly, who were acting on behalf of Katy Perry, asking her to stop selling her line.
"I got such a huge shock. It really felt like I was being intimidated and bullied into signing everything away," Katie Perry told the newspaper. "It asked me to give up the trademark, withdraw sales of my clothes, withdraw any advertising and any Web sites and sign that I will not in the future use a similar trademark to Katy Perry. I pretty much burst into tears."
Perry told The Australian that she was born Katie Jane Perry and, as such, she has no plans to cease and desist just because her name happens to be similar to an internationally famous pop star.

"I love my business. I'm not going to give it away without a fight, either," she said. "I'm not trying to become a singer. I'm not pretending to be her. This is my income. And it's the livelihood of my contractors as well."
Katy Perry is scheduled to play three shows in Australia in August, which should be, uh, interesting. MTV News' attempts to contact her label, Capitol Records, for comment on the situation were unsuccessful.

Notable Fashion Moment: There's a lot of territory to mine here, but it was her arrival at the 2010 Costume Institute Gala in NYC that Ms. Perry made her most fashionably outrageous entrance yet. Sporting a design from UK duo Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz of CuteCircuit, Perry's one-shouldered floor-length gown boasted 24,000 colorful LED rope lights. I guess when you're Katy Perry, the future does, indeed, look bright.
