Katy Perry's New Album 'Inspired' By Russell Brand Split

Katy Perry is said to be using the recent split with husband Russell Brand as inspiration for her new album.

The actor and comedian filed for divorce on Friday (December 30), blaming ''irreconcilable differences' on the split.

A source told The Sun: "Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary which she goes back to to draw upon for lyrics for her songs.
"She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary.
"She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks." Russell filed for divorce at LA Superior Court last Friday, citing "irreconcilable differences".
Katy Perry is believed to have wrote about former boyfriend Travis McCoy's alleged drug abuse in her album track, 'Circle The Drain'.
Lyrics in the track include: "Thought I was the exception/ I could rewrite your addiction/ You could have been the greatest/ But you'd rather get wasted/ You fall asleep during foreplay/ 'Cause the pills you take are more your forte."
Perry and Brand began dating shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, which the comedian hosted.Katy Perry is going to a darker place in her music, perhaps to exorcise a certain demon named -- shall we guess? -- Russell Brand.
On the cover, she looks almost unrecognizable -- more likeMegan Fox then herself -- with thick cat eye liner, a teasedAmy Winehouse-style beehive, a studded sparkly bra, black elbow length globes and long dangling earrings.
Inside Perry talks to Kristen Wiig about how her recent break-up will affect the songs she now writes and performs. She says: ‘Well, my music is about get real f---king dark. I'll be shoe-gazing. You'll never see my face because my hair is in my face.’"
We could have predicted after seeing her angry Grammy growl in "Part of Me," which sounded inspired by her breakup with Brand.
"You're not gonna break my soul," Perry sang. "Your love was cheap, was always tearing at the seam. I feel deep and you let me down. But that was then and this is now."
She also sang almost directly to Brand: "You can keep the diamond ring. It don't mean nothing anyway. In fact you can keep everything. Yeah, yeah, except for me."
That track will be on the extended version of Teenage Dream, set for release, March 13.
Hey, writing about creepy ex beaus seems to work just out fine for Taylor Swift
